Fordell hosts Scottish Explorer Scouts Challenge

‘Explore! Explore! Explore!’, the Scottish National Explorer Activity Challenge, took place at Fordell Firs National Activity Centre at the end of last month.

It was a fully programmed weekend of activities which 21 teams from across Scotland took part in.

The camp featured an activity-themed competition on the Saturday, in which teams navigated their way through the Kingdom of Fife while carrying out a series of challenges along the way.

Activities on offer included bell boating, mountain biking, orienteering, kayaking, caving, climbing, abseiling and many more, including the new 3G King Swing at Fordell Firs.

The weekend drew to a close on Sunday, after the presentation of the Andy Matthew Trophy to the first-placed South Morningside Explorer Scout Unit (SMESU) team from Edinburgh. Members of the SMESU team also received a Vango Venom 200 sleeping bag each, courtesy of event supporters Akela’s Den of Inverkeithing.

Aberdour Explorer Scout Unit came second, with each of the team receiving a Mini Trangia stove, while third place went to Explorers from the 85th Ardgowan Explorer Scout Unit. Well done to everyone.

Many thanks to East Region for providing us with an excellent 2010 event and to the Inch Fellowship who fed us so well over the weekend.
