The Young Leaders of the 8th Blackford Scout Group have been actively involved in the development and running of a Scout group which allows young Muslims to experience Scouting and what it offers in a group setting with an awareness of the background and concerns of their members.

The initiative was constructed in early 2007 and by November 2007 the Young Leaders had recruited young people to be prospective youth members and the adults attended numerous full day training courses ensuring that by the opening they were ready to lead a strong and vibrant group.

Their work as a group and as individuals with a vision for young Muslims engaging in activities that are enjoyed by generations of young people and taking part with local young people as part of a world wide movement clearly identifies their unwavering community spirit and their ongoing contribution to their community.

The Young Scottish Minority Ethnic Awards have been established to highlight the value of Scotland's youth from all minority ethnic background; recognising and rewarding those who have inspired others and positively contributed to life in Scotland.
