Scottish Scouting

Scottish Scouts are part of the UK Scout Association and as far back as 1909 it was agreed that a Scottish Headquarters should be created with responsibility for training, programme and administration in Scotland.

Scottish Headquarters is not just a building but a team of volunteers and staff who work together to add value and support to the many hundreds of Scout Groups that operate Scouting from Shetland to the Borders and from coast to coast.

The Scottish team is led by The Chief Commissioner of Scotland who is appointed by UK Headquarters to oversee the development of Scouting in Scotland. The Commissioner is supported by a team of volunteers who have specific skills and knowledge in a wide variety of areas. These skills ensure that the best possible support is given to the many thousands of volunteers across the country.

The secretariat is managed by The Chief Executive and a small team of professional staff who work in support of the strategic vision of The Scottish Council.

Together we make sure that Scouting in Scotland can operate within the UK Scout Association's policies and rules while taking account of different systems in Scotland, for example legal, educational, local and national government.

We also use our local knowledge and understanding of the unique challenges Scouting in some parts of Scotland brings to support our members and make sure they can run successful Groups wherever they are.

Scottish Headquarters provides a wide range of support, advice and services to members of The Scout Association throughout Scotland.

Our offices are based at Fordell Firs in Fife (click here for a map of our location) which is also the site of one of our National Activity Centres (the other two are at Lochgoilhead in Argyll and Meggernie in Perthshire).

Scottish Headquarters has a team of 10 people covering:

  • Programme and Development
  • Fundraising and Business Development
  • Finance
  • Administration
  • Marketing and Communications
  • Policy Matters
