Support Us>>7 On Appeal

The 36,000 members of The Scout Association in Scotland celebrated Scouting’s Centenary in 2007, and we are now responding to development challenges to take Scottish Scouting beyond 2007, as a vibrant, sustainable organisation, reaching out to more young people across the country.

But our real challenge is to ensure that the 1,500 young people in Scotland currently known to be on waiting lists, and many others too, have the chance to be part of the greatest youth movement in the world!

Our future - 7 On helping develop young people

Our 7 On Appeal was launched to provide an injection of resources that will enable Scottish Scouting to strengthen its operation and expand opportunities beyond 2007. The target is to raise £2 million, with the aim of growing youth and adult membership throughout Scotland.

What are we planning to do with the money raised?

The money raised will go to support Scouting at both a national and local level. National priorities include:

  • Improved marketing - a co-ordinated strategy which will promote Scouting as a modern, relevant and professional organisation, tell more people about the great work we do and encourage new members to join.
  • Local support for adult volunteers and Groups - for example, recruitment of development officers to support projects such as Virtual Scouting in remote rural areas, and develop Scouting as an option for after-school provision.
  • Development of Fordell Firs National Activity Centre - construction of a new flexible, fully accessible accomodation to support volunteer training and to extend the use by Scouts, schools and other groups, working in particular with marginalised young people.

In addition to these national projects, local Groups will retain 1/3 of all the money they raise to spend on their own projects.

What will the 7 On Appeal achieve?

Through the Appeal we will make sure Scouting in Scotland is in a strong position for its second century, providing better life chances for more young people through the adventure, fun and personal devleopment Scouting provides.

How are we raising the money?

We have secured funding from several Foundations and Charitable Trusts and will be seeking further money from outside sources. Scout Groups across Scotland are also taking part in fundraising, including several majot national events.
