Programme Support>>Activities

Activities are an integral part of Scouting and the list of different activities offered through Scouting is enormous. Our week-to-week programme is built on activities which help us achieve a balanced programme; this includes fitness, community, creative, outdoors and adventure. The activities we do then link in to the various challenge or activity badges available to us.

Some of the activities Scouting offers are classed as adventurous activities and require a permit. Information on which activities this affects is available on the Adventurous Activity Permit Scheme factsheet. Each Section has a selection of challenge badges culminating in the Chief Scout’s Award for that Section. The overall aim before a young person reaches the age of 25 is the Queen’s Scout Award. In addition to this are staged badges which interlink through all the junior Sections and are transferable from Beavers right through to Explorers.

In addition to activities are nights away experiences. In order to run nights away experiences a Leader must be in possession of a valid Nights Away Permit suitable to the type of experience intended to be run. Permits fall into 4 categories – Indoors, Campsite, Greenfield and Expedition. Forms can be downloaded for both Nights Away and Adventurous Activity Permits from the list at the bottom of this page.
