Insch Scouts raise funds for Malawian Orphans

Members of the 1st Insch Scout Group and Explorer Unit recently presented a cheque for £260 to representatives of the charity F.R.O.M. Scotland (Famine Relief for Orphans in Malawi). The cash was raised at the first carol concert which the group held in the Insch Church of Scotland at the end of last year.

The carol concert was a first for the group and proved to be a successful evening with well over 140 people attending. Entertained was provided by members from all Sections; Beavers sang Christmas songs, Cubs Scouts did their own version of the nativity story, Scouts did a rendition of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” and three Explorers read Christmas poems. Some of the musical members entertained with performances from the bag pipes, tenor horn and fiddles.

With many of the young people in the Group taking part in elements of the programme such as faiths & beliefs, climate change and international, it was agreed that F.R.O.M. would be a good choice to receive the proceeds of donations taken on the evening. F.R.O.M. is a locally based charity which was formed in 2005 to help feed and support orphans in Malawi during a period of famine. The charity is run with no administration costs and all the money raised goes directly to Malawi.

This is the second big donation that he group have made in recent years to help children in other parts of the world. The Group previously raised money through a tiddlywinks tournament on Red Nose Day which was sent to the Ramosadi Orphanage School in Mafeking, South Africa to help create a new library for the children.
