2nd Fife Group gears up for centenary

The 2nd Fife (Dunfermline) Scout Group celebrates its centenary later this year and a series of initiatives and events have been planned to mark the first 100 years of the Group.

The first event was a well-attended weekend Parent and Son Camp at the Crook of Devon Campsite (see picture below).

In July, 39 Scouts and Explorers made the trip to Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Switzerland for a special Centenary Annual Camp, taking part in a full programme of activities and International events planned by the Scout Centre.

In addition, a four-day Camp was held in August during which many former members to again sample the delights of the Crook of Devon Campsite.

Arguably the main event is the Centenary Dinner which is being held on 13th December, at which the main speaker for the evening will be former Chief Scout, Sir Garth Morrison. The Dinner is open to all present and former members and to all friends of the Group. The Group are keen to give all 'Old Boys' the opportunity to attend and, to help with this, they have set up a special email address - [email protected] - to encourage people to contact them, ask for information, request that their name be added to the mailing list or simply to leave a comment.

A history of the Group has also been produced to coincide with the centenary year. With 140 pages and 300 photographs, it is full of facts, reminiscences and anecdotes. The cost of the book is £12, which includes postage and packaging.

It has been a busy but rewarding year at this very important milestone and the Group goes into the next 100 years with renewed hope and continuing enthusiasm.
