Aberdeen Scouts' postcard from America

Scouts from the 9th City of Aberdeen Scout Troop have been on a two week long expedition to Arizona where they have had the opportunity to visit Indian reserves and learn more about Scouting in America. The Scouts were kind enough to send us the following update on their trip:

“Arizona is amazing - everyone is so friendly and loves our kilts! We have met so many people and lots of them have Scottish ancestors!

Big, epic, outstanding, fantastic, terrific, grand, spectacular, stunning, fascinating, huge, wonderful, amazing, wow, weird, unbelievable – those are just some of the words we used when we saw the Grand Canyon for the first time!

Wednesday night was a Scouting highlight for many of us. We had a campfire with the American Scouts and it was the best we have ever been at! Most of the time we were just chatting with the American Scouts and swapping badges, uniforms, t-shirts and books etc. - it was like a mad day on Wall Street! It was great to see our new friends wearing our expedition t-shirts.

We also visited the cowboy town of Tombstone which was very impressive and then we had a 10 minute trip to Mexico and we all got our passports stamped.

This has been such a brilliant expedition and we can’t wait to share our experiences with our families when we get back!”

As we described earlier in the month (click here for the story), the Scouts worked hard to raised a fantastic £28,000 for the trip - £5000 over their target!
