Important info about DofE Expeditions
30/03/2009
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award have introduced an Expedition Assessor Accreditation Scheme to clarify roles and responsibilities of assessors and reinforce the 20 conditions of the Expedition section.
The Accredited Prior Learning route has been devised to fast track experienced volunteers on to the scheme. We realise there is quite a bit of paperwork involved but hope you understand that the Duke of Edinburgh Award want to ensure that there is consistency in assessing, whether you are in the Pentland Hills or the Cairngorms. You will still be able to continue assessing groups this coming season, however accreditation will be mandatory from January 2010 at which time the DofE will not accept prior learning as a form of accreditation. To this end we would like to get our accreditation up to date as soon as possible and well before the deadline!
This process is for leaders who have experience of running the award and/or assessing DofE Expeditions at any level – the accreditation will reflect this. For individuals with no or very little experience, who would like to attend an assessor accreditation course please contact Fiona Dalziel at SHQ either by emailing [email protected] or by calling 01383 419 073.
Download an EAC/10 evidence sheet:
- Pages 1 – notes page, please disregard the first paragraph and bullet points.
- Pages 2 and 3 to be completed and signed by volunteer.
- Pages 4 and 5 to be completed and signed by SHQ in conjunction with you – we will have a telephone interview to complete this once we have received your form!
- Page 6 to be completed by volunteers if they have not completed a formal introduction to the DofE course in the last 3 years. This is then signed by the operating authority.
Download a completed example EAC/10 evidence sheet.
Paperwork for volunteers to be included with EAC/10:
- Online e-Induction Course - www.dofetraining.org/induction/content.html - paperwork will come in the form of print off certificate.
- EAAS online learning module/s – there is an additional module for those wanting to assess Gold - see here - paperwork will come in the form of print off certificate.
- Volunteer to sign a copy of the Expedition 20 conditions (Pages 7/8 of attached form).
- Passport sized photo
- SHQ will cover the £5 fee for all forms that we receive before 30th September 2009.
Once you have completed and signed everything required please send all documents to Fiona Dalziel at Scottish Scout Headquarters, Fordell Firs, Hillend, Dunfermline, KY11 7HQ to be processed and sent to the Duke of Edinburgh Award Regional office in Edinburgh. You will then be sent your Expedition Assessor Accreditation card. This will be revalidated every 5 years.
