New Employment Opportunities

RECRUITING NEW STAFF TO DELIVER AN AMBITIOUS STRATEGY FOR SCOUTS SCOTLAND

Scouts Scotland is seeking applications from experienced individuals for new staff roles leading communications, fundraising and National Activity Centres.

Background Information

Scouts Scotland is the largest co-educational youth work membership organisation in Scotland. Its membership has increased by 10,000 since 2007 to 44,358, but notwithstanding nine consecutive years of growth in our youth membership we have committed to continue expanding our reach, providing opportunities for adventure to more young people.

We have a vision for Scouting as an inclusive Movement, shaped by young people in partnership with adults; enjoyed by more young people and adult volunteers; making a positive impact on local communities; preparing young people to be active citizens; embracing and contributing to social change; with a membership that feels empowered, valued and proud.

Our Strategy aims to deliver sustainable growth and development of Scouting in Scotland; ensure young people have access to quality programme opportunities for adventure, fun, challenge and achievement; upskill our volunteer and staff workforce; ensure youth involvement at all levels; engage in partnership with the wider community; ensure safeguarding and safety of our young people; and secure sound financial underpinning.

Scouts Scotland Headquarters services are critical to supporting the 7,422 adult volunteers who manage and deliver Scouting for young people in 600 local Groups, 53 Districts and 8 Regions covering the whole of Scotland. In addition to responsibilities for policy, programme and strategic direction, and provision of a range of services that includes information, advice, practical resources, training, compliance, troubleshooting, and small grant support for local development, Scouts Scotland also operates three National Activity Centres in Argyll, Fife and Perthshire, providing safe and well-resourced venues for adventurous activities, residential experiences and outdoor learning for a diverse range of Scouting and non-Scouting customers.

A review of professional staffing completed earlier this year concluded that staffing capacity required to be enhanced to support achievement of our strategic aims. Capacity is required to strengthen our headquarters services and finances, with a view to improving support for local development.

The revised staffing structure approved by our Trustee Board introduces a new senior management team working with the Chief Executive, covering Scouting Operations, Communications and National Activity Centres, with additional capacity also for fundraising and partnerships, marketing and digital communications and media and public affairs.

A Head of Scouting Operations has been appointed. We are now seeking to recruit staff to other key strategic roles, heading up communications; leading development of our National Activity Centre businesses; and to lead fundraising and partnership activity.
