Adult Support
We believe that happy and confident adult volunteers provide better Scouting for more young people.
In Scouting we have a strong network of support for our volunteers, provided in many different ways and by lots of different people, to ensure that we create a strong and positive volunteer base.
Our emphasis is on providing you with the best possible help, encouragement, training and support so that you will perform and enjoy your role confidently.
Whatever your role in Scouting, you deserve the best possible support and to this end we have developed a comprehensive path of development to assist you in your role.
Adults in Scouting Model
The Adults in Scouting Model below is a diagram showing the journey of adults from the point of your initial interest through a review process to help you find your niche, and beyond.
The Model is a route and is divided into three main Sections:-
- The acquisition of adult resources - Identifying the need for new volunteers and planning your recruitment, appointment, and induction.
- Training, support and personal development - Integrating new adult volunteers into the Scout Movement, identifying and providing appropriate and relevant training and opportunities for you to help you develop your skills.
- Management of adult resources - opportunities for adult volunteers to review, evaluate and be thanked for your efforts.
An Action Plan for Good Support
Here is a short list of things that you should consider when offering support to other adult volunteers, or things to ponder when you need some help yourself:
- Take time to make regular contact and build relationships
- Review the support you currently offer/are receiving
- Identify what support is needed
- List different options for meeting these needs
- Prioritise and decide on actions
- Allocate resources and people where appropriate
- Give or ask for the support
- Review the results
