Scottish Beaver Scout Update

An update on the Beaver Scout Section from Lorraine Reilly, SHQ Commissioner (Beavers):

I'm really excited to have taken over the role of SHQ Commissioner (Beavers) and I'm looking forward to getting out and about to events across the country. If you’re holding a sleepover or camp, or are out visiting your local fire station, or perhaps you would like badges presented to your Beavers, then please do get in touch at [email protected]. I would love to come along and take part in all the exciting events taking place in Beaver colonies across Scotland.

Although the main focus of this Scouting year is on the Cubs 100th Birthday, Beavers are also lucky enough to be celebrating a birthday. This year Beavers celebrate their 30th Birthday on 1st April! This is a fantastic opportunity to incorporate some exciting birthday themed activities into your programme. Have you thought about holding a Big Beaver Birthday Bash to celebrate? The Beavers could get involved in the planning of the party, making invites and banners, and taking the lead on the day to serve cakes and biscuits to their chosen invitees (not the hot coffee though, we'll leave that to the Leaders!). This also presents a great opportunity to fundraise for your group or chosen charity - let the Beavers choose a worthy cause!

No birthday party is complete without a birthday cake, so why not take this opportunity to bake with your Beavers and enter the resulting masterpiece into this year’s Great Scottish Beaver Bake Off! I'd love to see what the Beavers come up with, so send your photos into [email protected] and I'll pick one as a winner. Closing date is end of April so...ready...steady...BAKE!

I am also looking for members to join my support team to help develop the Beaver Scout Section at a national level.

This is an exciting role that will give you the opportunity to have a say and make a real difference in shaping the Beaver Scout Section across Scotland. If you're enthusiastic, have experience of the Beaver Scout Programme, and are up for a new challenge, then I'd love to hear from you!

The team meets several times a year and provides advice and support on matters relating to the Beaver Scout programme. As part of this support, the team attends Scouts Scotland events as required.

If you are interested or would like further information, or if you'd like to discuss the role further, please drop me an email.

This position is not a Scout Association recognised appointment, so you need to hold and continue with an existing Scouting appointment. Some travel (in Scotland) is involved, and reasonable travel expenses in connection with your duties will be reimbursed. Access to a computer, email and internet is essential.
