We are delighted to announce the appointment of three SHQ Commissioners (Youth Involvement) with immediate effect.
Patrick West
Patrick has been a member of The Scout Association for the last 11 years initially as a youth member and Young Leader and then as a leader at 45th Perthshire (Alyth) with both Cub Scouts and Scouts. He joined the Youth Involvement Development Group helping to create the Youth Involvement Strategy and was part of the planning team for the most recent Scouts Scotland ‘Youth Approved’ Annual General Meeting. He is currently at university in Dundee studying to be a Geographer.
Mark Magee
Mark was a late joiner to Scouts but has been heavily involved since. As well as being an Assistant Scout Leader in Glasgow and a member of his District’s Executive Committee, he has been a regular member of the Youth Involvement Development Group taking a lead in anything of a technical nature. He has also been the lead support and mentor to our two Scouts Scotland MSYPs helping them with the Scottish Youth Parliament consultation work. Outside of Scouting, he is involved with youth work and is currently working towards his SVQ Level 3 in Youth Work.
Steven Maclennan
Steven is from the Isle of Lewis although he is currently living in Dundee. He previously held an Assistant Explorer Scout Leader appointment in Western Isles and is active in Scout Network in Dundee. He attended the last Youth Summit in 2010 and has been very keen on anything youth involvement since then. He has worked as an Outreach Worker and more recently as a Senior Youth Worker and is currently studying Community Learning and Development at university.
The role of SHQ Commissioner (Youth Involvement) is principally focussed around providing adult support to the Regions and Districts across Scotland in promoting Youth Involvement, but will also include being a key part of the Youth Involvement Development Group at Scottish Headquarters to ensure that the overall strategy is achieved and supported.
