Centenary 2007>>Centenary events Scotland>>Woodland Trust and Scouts

As part of our centenary celebrations, the Woodland Trust and the Scout Association have formed a partnership to provide members of the Scout movement with a number of opportunities to learn about, and engage in, woodland conservation.

Over the next few years, the Woodland Trust, the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity, will offer a series of activities and events for Groups. This initiative is part of the Trust’s Tree For All campaign, which aims to involve one million children in planting 12 million trees.

Scouts centenary woods

During 2007 the Woodland Trust is offering all Scouts the chance to plant trees as part of the 2007 centenary celebrations the Tree For All campaign.

The aim this year is to plant at least 100 Centenary Groves – these will be new areas of native woodland, each made up of thousands of trees.

Many sites have already been identified thanks to the support from our partners and campsites. Some of the sites are owned by the Woodland Trust, however the majority are owned by other organisations and individuals who want to be part of the Scouts for Trees project in 2007. These sites will be planted throughout 2007, either in the period January - April or October - December.

There are other ways to get involved too...
Hedge and Copse packs

Groups can apply for a pack of 30 trees (enough for a small copse or short length of hedge) to plant in your local area, whether it be where you meet or somewhere else in your local community that might benefit from some trees. Trees are available in the Spring and Autumn.

Nature Detectives

Watch what is happening in your local environment in spring and autumn and help with the nationwide nature detective watch.
