Scottish Scouts Youth Summit - make your voice heard!

17/10/2007

To continue in the remarkable spirit of our centenary year the 2007 Scottish Conference promises be a special one. Alongside this year’s conference, which takes place on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th November at the Aviemore Highland Resort, we will be running a fun and challenging event for young people aged 14 to 25.

The aim of this Youth Summit, the biggest Youth Consultation Event ever undertaken in Scottish Scouting, is to enable young people involved in Scouting to make their opinions heard to all delegates and help shape the future of Scouting in Scotland. The weekend will include engagement with the main conference however it will run with its own programme.

Financial backing has been secured through the National Youth Work Strategy to subsidise both the participation of young people and the assignment of an adult group to supervise and take responsibility for the youth participants.

Each Area in Scotland has been asked to send 4 Youth delegates from the 14 to 25 age group. So far 14 Areas have taken up their full allocation and 4 have taken up part of their allocation. This leaves 13 Areas who are yet to identify participants.

If you are interested in being part of the Youth Conference, why not ask your Area Commissioner if you can go? Your Area might also be able to ask for extra spaces. The Cost of the conference, including 2 night stay in the 4 star Macdonald Highland Resort in Aviemore, plus all food and activities is only £30. You can speak to your Area Commissioner to see if any help towards the cost is available from the Area.

If there are any further questions about this event, please don’t hesitate to contact Juultje (Yule) at Scottish Headquarters on 01383 419 073 or on [email protected]
