At the end of the year Scouts have the opportunity to be classed as Super Troopers, receiving their Super Trooper badge and Pennant. A number of challenges are year long and others are designed to get Troops within Districts working together. ADC (Scouts) will authorise the award of Super Trooper status at the end of the year (March 2009) on receipt of proof that activities have been completed.
Year-long challenges (do at least 2 of these):

Keep a year-long Troop journal (video, photo, scrapbook, website, etc)

Design and publish a Troop newsletter (say 3 to 4 editions)

Choose a local charity and raise money throughout the year

Hold some form of year-long competition for the Troop

Fitness challenge (personal fitness improvement)

Grow plants, vegetables, sunflower, etc.

Throughout the year get at least 3 or 4 positive stories into the media (local newspaper, radio, TV, etc.)

Challenges for January / February / March:
Complete 3 activities from 8 plus 1 joint activity
- Construct and race a Troop kart.
- Hold a musical Troop evening.
- Hold a Troop meeting in an unusual place.
- Run a Troop night in a swimming pool (& gain appropriate activity badges).
- Hold an International Food night.
- Go stargazing (outside/observatory/planetarium) and learn/recognise some of the main constellations.
- Celebrate the New Year.
- Organise and run a “Bring a parent” Troop evening based on traditional Scouting skills.
Joint activities (do at least one):
- Hold a meeting with another youth organisation.
- Take part in an activity with a Troop from a different region.
- Hold a specific link event (outdoors?) with a Cub Scout Pack (or for the Sixers/Seconders of a Cub Scout Pack).
Challenges for October / November / December:
Complete 3 activities from 8 plus 1 joint activity
- Organise, build and take an active part in a campfire, preferably involving other Scouts or Sections.
- Take part in an on-line activity (e.g. JOTI).
- As a Troop take part in a new adventurous activity.
- Organise an entertainment event for a group of people out-with your Scout Group.
- Visit one of the main emergency services or have them visit you to learn about their activities.
- Invite person/people from different religions to visit the Troop (or visit them) to explain and find out about their religions.
- Hold an unusual/different Christmas Party/St Andrew’s Night/Halloween Party.
- Hold a futuristic themed Scout evening.
Joint activities (do at least one):
- Hold a joint activity with a Special Needs group.
- Organise and/or take part in a District Event.
- Get the Patrol Leaders/Older Scouts to organise and hold a PL/Leader exchange evening (i.e. Leaders become Scouts, and the PL’s/older Scouts become the leaders for an evening).
Challenges for July / August / September:
Complete 3 activities from 8 plus 1 joint activity

Run a Summer Olympics event to coincide with Beijing 2008 (link to Fit for Life challenge, Athlete activity badge, etc.)

Hold a Beach Party somewhere unusual.

Prepare and cook a meal outdoors using fresh ingredients and wood fires for Parents.

Take part in a water based activity.

Make a bow & arrow, or similar projectile implement, and hit a target.

Visit a local historic site, find out about it and report back to Parents/Group Exec, etc.

Carry out a challenge to benefit your local environment.

Participate in a night hike with a purpose.

Design, make, customise & fly Patrol/Troops kites – hold a kite flying competition

Plan, write and draw/record an advert for your Scout Troop/Group to aid recruitment for either new Scouts or Scout Leaders, or both.

Consult local campsite warden and take part in a Troop service project

Discuss and try a new sport for all the Troop members
