One of the adjuncts to the adult training scheme is the facility for adult leaders to align their training to the Open College Network (OCN) and so have their training accredited and recognised by this network. The OCN operates in England, Wales and in Northern Ireland. There are no Colleges in Scotland affiliated to the OCN. However, Colleges in other parts of the UK will be able to accommodate adult leaders in Scotland who would like to pursue a qualification.
It is important that any leader who is considering taking up this opportunity of an OCN qualification through their Scout adult training understands that Scottish Qualifications Authority and Colleges in Scotland do not recognise the OCN qualifications as an automatic entry qualification. Anyone applying for college entry to a Scottish College and hoping to use an OCN award should discuss with the College, which they hope to attend, whether or not an OCN qualification could be considered as part of the entry criteria. This should be done at as early as possible to avoid misunderstanding between the college and the potential student.
