 SNOWSPORT FORUM12/13/2003
Snowsport Forum - Saturday 13th December 2003 This time last year saw the introduction of the Authorisation Scheme for Snowsports. Only with its introduction did it become apparent that there were issues relating to the assessment criteria and how to carry out assessments. Interim guidance was provided but only in the knowledge that at some point a more constructive approach would be needed. Recognising the level of participation and locus of expertise in Scotland, UKHQ have agreed that we take a lead in bringing together interested parties to develop an assessment process for Snowsport in Scotland with a view to adopting this across the UK in due course. To this end we have arranged to hold a Snowsport Forum in conjunction with UKHQ, here at SHQ on Saturday the 13th December from 10.00 to 16.00. The format of the day is being prepared however we plan to ; Update everyone on the progress of the authorisation review (for all activities) Look at what skills should be assessed for a Snowsport authorisation Look at which awards cover these skills (if any) and could used as an assessment syllabus Look at what qualifications we should expect Snowsport assessors to have Look at how to assess people away from snow or out of the winter season The forum is open to any party with an interest in Snowsports but we are actively seeking the involvement of existing Snowsport Assessors and individuals holding appropriate qualifications such as a Snowsport Scotland Leader/Coach Award or BASI Instructor. For the efforts of those attending SHQ will provide tea, coffee and lunch. An agenda and directions to Fordell will be sent out to those reserving a place by completing the registration form. Uniform will not be required.
