Leaders' Events
Have you ever thought about taking your Beavers away for the night but feel you haven’t the experience or are rather scared at the prospect?…Well these are the events for you!
We are running 2 Leaders-Only Sleepovers to pass on tips, ideas, and answer any questions you might have on the subject of Nights Away for Beavers.
Come and participate in a Beaver Sleepover and have a fun weekend exchanging ideas without any Beavers to entertain.
Interested? Please download the application in the right-hand colum of this page.
25th Birthday
That’s us half way through the year now and what a busy year it has been in many parts of Scotland.
Here is a selection of some more events which have been run in the last month:
Inverness Beavers Siege of Mafeking
Inverness District held a Birthday celebration fun day at Fort George where the theme was the Siege of Mafeking.
They took part in many traditional scout skills & learned a bit about Baden Powell and his work as a soldier.
Despite a cold wind, the Beavers all had a wonderful day, finishing up with a sing song.
Western Isles Beaver Birthday Bash
Beavers in the Western Isles were treated to a wonderful day out with a traditional Birthday theme.
They took part in games, cake decorating, face painting, a magician and Punch & Judy Show. They also had a visit from the Islands’ mascot – Bertie Beaver.
The weather on the day meant that the event had to be moved indoors but everyone had a great, fun-filled day.
Question: What is turquoise, noisy and sleeps under canvas?
Answer: The 150th Glasgow Beaver Colony.
With 5 Explorers as a support team, the Beavers had a fantastic weekend.
They explored Auchengillan, played in the woods, collected sticks, used the climbing tower, toasted marshmallows, jumped in muddy puddles and, best of all slept in a tent! A great experience for everyone involved.
To view more pictures of what all these Beavers got up to, have a look at the SHQ Flickr photostream (will be updated soon!).
Adventure in Gordon
Over 200 Beavers in Gordon were treated to an Adventure Day at Daviot Campsite in celebration of the 25th Birthday.

They had a great day and took part in more than 30 bases ranging from circus skills, rope-bridge, grass sledging and archery to craft and games.
They also raised money for the National Autistic Society for Scotland.
25th Birthday Challenges
How are you getting on with the Birthday Challenges?
In case you missed it last month, the Certificate of completion is now available online for leaders to personalise & print out.
Please send in any good photos you have of Beavers taking part – we haven’t received many yet.
Pen Pal Alert!
28th Willesden Beaver Colony, North West London is looking for a colony who would like to be pen pals or to form a friendship.
If you would like to get in touch with them, please send an email to address below & the first colony to reply will be put in touch with them.
Bronze Awards
Numbers are starting to come in for Chief Scout’s Bronze Awards which have been presented in the last year.
East Lothian District had 22 successful Beavers. Well done to them & their leaders.
Please ensure your colony doesn’t get missed from the final figures. Group Scout Leaders should now be collecting this information.
This will be the last edition of Beaver Bytes till August, so I hope you & all your Beavers have a great summer.
