We're happy to announce that applications for both the International Service Team (IST) and Jamboree Planning Team (JPT) will open on the 17th of September 2013, and close on the 21st of October 2013.
Please note that this is not a first come, first served application system. All Scottish applications will firstly be viewed by a selection panel. Successful applicants from the first stage will be invited to an event on the 1st/2nd February 2014 for final selection.
Further information, including an information pack, is now available at www.scouts.org.uk/wsj.
What is the International Service Team
The International Service Team, or IST, is made up of adult volunteers from all over the world who pay to attend the Jamboree and run all the activities and services on behalf of the organisers. There will be different departments including working on the sub camps, onsite programme as outlined on page 3 (Cross Road of Culture, City of Science and Global Development Village), Faiths and Beliefs Zone, offsite activities (Community Service, Exploring Nature and Water Activities) Site Management, Transport, Food and Trading.
Nearer the Jamboree, we hope have more information about the departmental and job allocations, but it cannot be guaranteed that everyone will be allocated to their preferred department.
IST members will need to be adaptable especially given the location of the Jamboree and the difference in culture and language barriers that this brings. Days at the Jamboree are generally long, sleep is at a premium and IST jobs may be physically and mentally demanding. The size of the Jamboree site will be very large and there is no transport to get around other than by your own means. The climate of Japan will be an additional challenge (average temperature max 30 degrees and humid).
What is the Jamboree Planning Team?
Details of the JPT roles are yet to be fully agreed with the Jamboree organisers. There will be some involvement before the Jamboree (working remotely only from home) and the organisers have suggested that previous experience at other Scouting events would be desirable. Areas of work and other requirements are likely to be similar to those stated for IST.
The UK Contingent will provide the same packages and support for JPT members as for IST.
What are the Packages?
The options are as follows:
Option A – Includes the pre-Jamboree experience, as well as the Jamboree. Pre-Jamboree IST/ JPT Tokyo Experience - Japan is a long way away, and is very different culturally from the UK. The UK IST/JPT will be offered an optional Tokyo Experience which will include food and accommodation in Tokyo, and the chance to experience a bit of the real Japan before heading to the Jamboree site. All flights and transfers provided (from UK Regional Airport).
Cost - £2,800
Option B – Jamboree only with all flights and transfers provided from UK Regional Airport.
Cost - £2,500
Option C – Jamboree only (the Organisers will arrange transport from local Japanese airports and/or train stations to be confirmed) For all of the above options, kit including uniform and a tent will be provided. IST/JPT will be invited to a training event in July 2014 and to an all adult event in May 2015.
Cost - £1,175
Exact dates for Options A & B are to be confirmed but the arrival date at the Jamboree for IST is 26th July 2015 with departure on 9th August 2015. JPT are to be confirmed but will be the same or similar. More details regarding these packages will be issued as soon as they are confirmed.
If you are interested in the above roles, keep your eyes on www.scouts.org.uk/wsj and the Scouts Scotland website and Facebook page for more information. As stated above, applications will be open from the 17th of September to the 21st of October 2013 at the above URL.
