Scout Active Support
Scout Active Support is a very important part of the Movement.
Scout Active Support Units are open to men and women of all ages, interests and backgrounds. There is no need to have been involved in Scouting before, all that is required is a willingness to give some of your time. In return you will make friends and be able to join with others doing whatever you decide. A Scout Active Support Unit has its own social and activity programme.
Active Support was launched at the Gilwell Reunion in early September of 2009 and, following this, a number of presentations either have taken or are to take place around the UK.
Active Support proposals look at the following key issues:
Active Support presentations:
There are two major opportunities to attend presentations during the early part of next year. These will be in Glasgow on Saturday 6th February 2010 and in Aberdeen on Sunday 7th February 2010. Invitations are now being sent out to all Fellowships to attend these presentations.
Why Change Booklet:
In the meantime a booklet entitled ‘Why Change – Fellowship to Scout Active Support – Your Quick Reference Guide’, is available on request from UKHQ.
Short term way ahead:
In the meantime by all means review where your Fellowship is in terms of the provision of Support, but do not rush into making changes yet. Active Support does not have to be fully implemented until December 2010. I am hoping that any implementation issues associated with the introduction of Active Support will be fully explored during the February 2010 presentations.
