Network News                                                                             October 2009

Insight 2009

Insight 2009 will be taking place in Oxford over the weekend of 21st and 22nd November.

This annual event is open to all Members of The Scout Association aged between 18 and 25 and is designed to give Members the opportunity to participate in an open forum looking at a number of key issues both within Scouting and in wider society.

The feedback generated from each discussion will be inputted into the work of UK Headquarters to help direct ongoing and future work. Your Region/District should cover your travel costs for this weekend.

What does the Region/District get out of it? You – someone who is further developed in being able to speak out in very important forums.

Before a participant can sign up to the event, their ARC (Scout Network) will need to confirm their application. Alternatively, if you would like to nominate somebody for the event, please get in touch with the Programme Team by either calling 02084 337150 or by email at programme@scout.org.uk with ‘Insight ’09’ in the subject field.

Queen’s Scout Award presented

Talk about in the nick of time! Brian Henderson completed his Queen’s Scout Award with only days left before he was 25. And what a rush it was to arrange final sign-off interview, but in the end he managed it. After all that hard work it was fitting that Brian arranged for a group awards night to be the event at which he would be presented with his award by the local Queen’s representative, the Lord Lieutenant.

Prove you’re a Scout at Camp

Each April, members of the Scout Network receive a new appointment card which confirms they are full member of The Scout Association. These appointment cards are the same as the Leader ones; in fact if you are a Leader you don’t get another one you simply have ‘Scout Network’ listed on it as a role additional to your Leader role.

As the model of Scout Network allows you as an individual to attend any Network event in the UK, it is important for you to have this card as organisers are starting to use it as a proof of your membership of The Scout Association, meaning you are insured.

I have Network members who don’t have a card, how do they get one?
They need to be put onto the membership database; either a DSNL or DSNA should be able to enter them onto the system. If you have any problems contact your ARC
(Scout Network) or me (scoutnetwork@scouts-scotland.org.uk).

Scout Network Programme Focus Group

Have your chance to speak out on the Scout Network programme; UKHQ and SHQ have teamed up to hold a unique Focus Group on the 1st November.

We are looking for about 12 Networkers from around the country to come together at Lapwing Lodge Scout Centre. We have made it the same weekend as a number of other meetings so your ARC (Scout Network) or your regional SSNC reps could help with transport.

The Scottish Scout Fellowship will also be at Lapwing Lodge carrying out a work weekend as well as their AGM, and we are looking to help them at different times during the weekend.

So all in all; a full busy weekend, don’t forget to bring your old clothes. If you would like to be involved in the future programming of the Scout Network then drop an email to SHQ Programme and Development Officer Fiona at fiona@scouts-scotland.org.uk.

Network Leadership training

We have been able to rearrange the Network Leadership training that had to be postponed from April this year, and now have a date for 26-28 March 2010 at a venue to be arranged. Get your diary out and get the date written in!

We would like to ensure that this training weekend fully meets your needs, and therefore ask that you drop fiona@scouts-scotland.org.uk an email by the end of September at the very latest detailing what kind of training you need/would like to assist you with your role or to gain your Wood Badge for this role (if appropriate).

This training weekend is open to all ARC (Scout Network), DSNLs and DSNAs.
