Hill Phones Scheme in Scotland

For those of you heading to the hills during the autumn, we have been reminded about the Hill Phones scheme which has been established by some of the bigger hunting estates in Scotland, to advise walkers and hill users of deer stalking activities.

The scheme operates from July to October each year, and covers the following areas of the country:

North Arran hills, Glen Fyne/Glen Falloch, Balquhidder, Glen Dochart/Glen Lochay, Atholl and Lude, Fealar, Glen Shee, Callater and Clunie, Invercauld, Balmoral/Lochnagar and Glen Clova, Grey Correis/Mamores and Gler Strathfarrar.

The service provides recorded messages for its own area, updated as necessary throughout the period. The service is supported by the National Access Forum and is organised by Scottish national Heritage and the Mountaineering Council for Scotland.

Walkers are advised to follow the guidelines issued as part of the scheme, so as to minimise any disturbance to the stalking activities when they are taking place.

Full details of the scheme and the contact phone numbers for each area can be found at the Hill Phones website - www.hillphones.info.
